Ozone Gaming Backpack Review

Intro

Today I got my hands on another product by Ozone. But this product is not a usual gaming peripheral, it's a Backpack. A backpack designed to cater for today's gamers needs.

The Backpack

Taking a first look at this backpack. It comes in a big plastic bag. Tearing that down, I found, of course the backpack. I was impressed right away, when feeling the actual bag in my hands. It gives you straight away the idea that this is a professionally done backpack.

Well, going to basics. A backpack's selling point is mostly the appearance, meaning to check what's inside first you need to like it from the looks on the outside. Surely this Ozone Backpack caught my eye when I got to see it. It comes in a black/grey/red colour scheme to fit the Ozone range. On the upper front, there is the Ozone name in white, and below there is the big red "O3" logo with some red stitches to complement with the design and indicate pockets.

Turning the backpack, backwards, I found a series of padding, designed for maximum comfort. This padding is distributed by having one on each shoulder and one round padding in the middle below in order to reduce the pressure against shoulders and the back. Taking a look to the straps, I can say that they are well tailored to endure heavy carriage while also distributing the weight troughout in order not to put extra pressure on the shoulders. To fit with the general backpack design the straps come in a red stitched tailorwork to complement with Ozone's colour scheme. Both straps can be attached together from the chest with a third horizontal strip that clips in order to reduce pressure on the spine by evenly dispersing the bags weight aslo to the chest.

Moving on to the sides of the backpack, on the right side I found a small zipper bag in which one can carry let's say for example, a camera. On the left side I found a small zipper but this one is dedicated for mp3 players since it features a rubber covered hole from which one can pass the headphone's cable.

The bottom of the bag is reinforced with more solid nylon to endure even rough surfaces. Also at the bottom front I found the rubber point feature which guards the bag from rough surfaces as all bags tend sometimes to bend forward.

Now, its time for what I think is the most important, feature of this review, the bag's compartments. Starting from the front, first we have a small zipper at the top that opens a small compartment at the upper front level of the bag. In this compartment, I found a small stitched compartment that is ideal to hold business cards or all forms of small papers that one might need. Underneath there is an are with pen holders. Then of course the whole comparment area were one can place small things. I would say that mobile phones, some pins and maybe a screwdriver for a LAN would be great in this compartment. No one knows what might happen in a LAN.

The second following layer, has the depth of the whole size length. In this Layer of the bag we have a stitched compartment and the top with a quite attractive 6 CD holder, with the red Ozone scheme, same as the bag interior and black coloured CD layers on the other side. Below we have a big compartment that closes with a velcro sqaure stiched inside at the middle. On the outer side of this compartment, I found two other compartments half the size of the big one. One has a white meshed look that closes with a zipper, and the other with a velcro strap.

Moving to the the third and last compartment, the largest compartment; When I first opened it, I was surprised to find a fully detachable laptop sleeve with the Ozone branding that can be used as a seperate bag to carry the laptop around. This Laptop sleeve bag carries a similar colour scheme as the actual bag. This sleeve can carry a laptop with a maximum screen size of 16". My laptop did fit perfectly and I can assure you it was protected thanks to the padding.

Now taking a look to the compartment, it has a white meshed compartment which spreads wide enough to carry a wide box for a mouse or a camera. The most impressive thing in my opinion is that  even though Ozone provided this bag with a sleeve they still catered for laptops with larger screen sizes, since inside this compartment there is a strap that actually secures with velcro either the laptop bag or larger laptops that do not actually fit the sleeve in order for such to remain steady while carrying the bag.

Testing the bag

I started by fitting in my mp4 player in the mp3 zipper. I found it really safe and convenient since it has the elastic player holder inside and the outer part of the pocket is harder than the rest of the bag compartments for protection. Altough the compartment has a small hole that enables it to cater for the MP3 player headphones such hole is protected by rubber in order to stop any liquids or other material to enter the compartment.

As for the bigger compartments, I was curious to check what they could endure. So in order to test them well, instead of a laptop in the separate sleeve found inside the largest compartment I decided to fit in some books and games I found running around my room as they are thicker and take more space. They easily fit I must say. Now I also got myself, a keyboard, mouse, umbrella (never know what to expect) and some discs I threw in the CD carry case found in the bag. Everything fitted in like wonders. Starting from the 3rd Compartment I put in the bag with the things already stuffed in it and a 4mm thick mousemat. I noticed that there was still space. That space allowed me to fit another 300 pages book with the other things, all in the 3rd compartment. Then, the 2nd compartment was ideal for me to host, my umbrella in one of the small compartments and the mouse in the other, all straped and secured. Finally my keyboard and another 200 page book that fit perfectly with no extra squeezing. Closing the bag with all that load was easy and gave me no problems, I was actually amazed on how many things actually fit in that bag.

Conclusion

When I closed the backpack I noticed how the backpack was still looking neat and not like some other bags that look overstretched and heavy bulked up. Also once I put it on I got to test truly the padding since the bag was pretty heavy. Still it felt somehow light and comfortable.

I must say that overall this backpack met my expectations and I gladly give this backpack the Hackers Gold Award
