Hackers Community Website Guide

Hackers Malta has been around since 2007 now. We have grown from a shop with a few customers to a community. www.hackersmalta.com version 1 served it's purpose and we have shifted to a new and improved website, with a huge number of new features and whose ultimate purpose is to make gamers feel at home. The following will serve as an introductory guide to the intricate features of this website.

Registration and login

Registration is vital for members to enjoy the full scope of this website. It is a very easy process and takes less than a minute. To register, simply click the hyperlinked 'Register' on the right hand side, just beneath the login entry.

Insert the information requested appropriately, and an email will be sent to the specified address with an activation link. After you have activated your account, you will be able to login from the homepage, using the username and password specified. Ticking the 'Remember Me' option will not require any further logins from your particular station. If you have forgotten any of your specified details, click on the 'Forgot Login' text, and an email will be sent to your account with instructions on how to retrieve the username or change the password.

Profile

The Hackers website offers means to customise your online presence. To do so, you must first login, and the left hand column will result as follows:

The options give you easy access to the website's communal facilities, which are quite similar to those of other social networking websites.

The profile is the means of defining yourself on the website. The profile displays your personal information, organised in tabs:

The information you can input is vast, from the specifications of your computer, to where you live, clans, preferred game etc.

The profile also contains the site's communal facilities. Profile Activity displays a feed of what you have been up to in interacting with the website. Shout it out! Allows you to display a status which will appear on your Profile Activity, and in the feed at the bottom of the homepage, whilst Groups displays any in-site groups you might have joined.
The Gallery option allows one to upload pictures onto the website which may be viewed by other members. To do so, click on the Gallery tab, and then click New Picture, which will bring you to the following screen:

NB: Take note of the size of images that is allowed, else your action will result in an error.

On clicking on the My Galleries link in the Gallery tab, one is presented with a list of uploaded images which can be added to one's list of Favourites by pressing the yellow star. These can be accessed either through the My Favourites link on the same page, or through clicking the Favoured Images tab in the profile.

In the Profile, one can also find from where to edit all this information:

Clicking on 'Edit' will open a new page with tabs where you can edit your profile details:

One may also set a Profile Image by clicking the Update Your Image choice in the Edit menu:

One may either upload a profile image from one's own Computer, keeping in mind the dimension restrictions, or choose one from the gallery.

Connections

Through the Profile, one may also edit his connections, which are basically establish relationships with your friends and acquaintances throughout the website:

By going to the User List on the User Menu, one gets a list of all the registered users in the website. One may click on any user and enter the profile, and establish a connection with him/her, by moving over to the connections tab, and click Request Connection:

One may then click Manage Your Connections, and will be taken to one's profile, where one may view and interact with the connections:

Forum

Through the user menu, one may also access the forum: text boards where one may enter into discussions with any of the members. There are different sections, and topics ought to be posted only in their relevant section:

The system detects which threads one has viewed or not viewed, and a notification will be displayed when there are unread messages.

The following options allow for quick access into particular topics and messages you might want to view, most importantly being Recent Discussions, which allows one to view the latest posts by the members.

A Thread refers to a new discussion. Anyone may post new discussion if they are posted within their correct section. To do so, simply enter into one of the categories, and click on the New Thread button.

On opening a new thread, one has to input certain information, such as the Subject, which is usually one or two words generally describing the content of the thread, and one may also include an icon.

To reply to an existing thread, one simply needs to click on the Reply or Quick Reply button.

Quick Reply allows one to reply with the most basic of an input working area, whilst the Reply button provides a lucrative working areas with several extra options.

When posting any new thread or reply within the forum, one will have the following working area, which allows one to input text, and format it with the usual options, such as Bold, Underline, Italics, Colour, Bullets, Numbering, Alignment, etc and of course, smilies. One also has the option to upload a picture or file to the message:

Subscribing to the topic will send one a message, notifying the new reply.

Groups

The website allows a system of creation and association to a Group. This option is accessible through the User Menu. One has the option to create a new group, to invite a friend to one's own group or to accept an invitation into a group.

In creating a new group, one has to input several information, including a name, logo, description and a website address. Other options allow for customisation of the group, such as enabling a comments wall (for users to post any thoughts regarding the group), and a discussion wall (a mini forum for the group) as well as a group photo gallery. There is also the option to publish group news.

One also has to set out the level of access users have towards the group:

Once one is part of the Group, click on My Groups and there is the option of either Inviting new people, or leaving the group.

On Inviting people to a group, one has to pick the username of the friend from a drop down menu, and one also has the ability to include a message to the friend:

Clicking on My Invitations allows one to view any invitations one might have received to join any group.

Hackers Points

This website distributes points for actions done within. The more active you are, the more points one gets. One gets points through daily logins, submitting articles, and more. Clicking on Hacker Point Summary in the User Menu will give a summary on how points are allocated:

Messages

On entering to other user's profile, one can send a personal message by clicking the Messages tab, and clicking Send Email. This will send an email message directly to the inbox of the recipient.

One ought to make sure the email address provided is correct and legitimate, else one will not be able to receive any personal messages.
