eDimensional FX Pro 5.1 Headset

Audio FX Pro 5+1 Headset Review

Here it is. A new product from eDimensional has been offered to us for a review by Hackers Malta. These headsets are now in stock at Hackers. This new headset is designed by Benjamin J. Heckendorn himself. If you haven-t seen his work, I strongly suggest that you visit his website by simply clicking here.

When I first saw the headset, my thoughts were, "Oh, it seems amazing. I want to try it". This is because when I saw the headset, I already knew that it is robust, professional and good looking. So I grabbed a computer at Hackers, put the headset on, and played C&C3: Kane-s Wrath. What I can say is that the sound was crystal clear even with full sound. The headset includes vibration and when attacking in the game, I felt like I-m in the game. I could hear every attack each with their own vibration frequency. After that experience, Mauro, Hackers Cafe` owner, handled me a new headset for a review, and that-s what Lanthrax will offer.
Package

As you can see below, this is the outer package that stores the headset.
One can see the headset and the in-line volume control contained inside the package. A sound driver and a user manual are available too.
Design

The headset is a USB plug and play hardware, however an optional driver is included as mentioned before. It has an in-built sound card 5.1 ready. The headset is large especially the earcups. The cups enclose the ears therefore no force will be made on them. They have eight red LEDs on each cup that lights up with vibration. The more the vibration, the more LEDs are lit. The padding is really soft so the contact with the head is not strong. The distance between the headband and the earcups is adjustable and fits different head sizes. The headset is completely symmetrical excluding the microphone and the wire. This creates the advantage that the user can wear it in two ways; microphone on the left or microphone on the right. I have never seen this option in other headsets. If the user puts on the headset with the microphone on the right, an option to switch left and right should be chosen from the software driver as shown below.
Sound

If you are planning to buy a headset that has to be really loud, and still clear, the Audio FX 5+1 is your choice! When I tried the -Ares headset- at Hackers too, it was loud at maximum sound, but I noticed that its clarity decreased dramatically, so I had to lower the sound. Certain headsets have low sound because of this problem, but the Audio FX 5+1 was designed mainly to produce crystal clear sound even at its maximum! I played C&C:KW, Call Of Duty 4, and Assasin-s Creed with this headset. When I played COD 4 online, and used an AK 47, I said, "Now I heard everything!" The shots seemed very powerful and with the vibration included, its even more realistic. I adjusted the sound settings in COD 4 to stereo. That seems to be the best option for this headset. Maybe I-m wrong. Test yourself. It-s fun.

The headset is designed so that the user is fully immersed in it. If the user is listening to music, or playing games, or watching a film, and someone talks to him/her from the outside, he/she probably will hear nothing. This works vice versa too. If the user puts the headset on, the person next to the user doesn-t here the sound that much, but if the headset is on the table, the user will hear them as if there is a small speaker. So don-t worry if your parents are shouting at you to stop playing, now you have an excuse :).

Microphone

The microphone can swing up or down but not left and right. It is said that it is teamspeak certified and in fact, no one argued that I-m not clear when talking, but I had to turn on the microphone boost to be heard clearly. Also if you installed and used Teamspeak before using this headset, you have to enter the options from the settings tab, and choose the required sound card (the one shown below).

The cable is quite long, long enough to pass it around the monitor and keyboard with the case on the opposite side. The in-line control has a green LED, but sometimes a red flashing LED flashes but I couldn-t figure out why or when.

Summary

The Audio FX Pro offered me more than I expected. It is really easy to install, use and tweak. I tested it on games, music and movies and it always proved the clarity of its sound. It is really comfortable and good looking.

So my final word are, go, try and buy this headset from Hackers Cafe` Msida now! They are available on all the computers installed at the venue. Happy hacking :).
